06-01-2007 4:22 am - Salsa Clubs This Saturday!!!

Here is a list of Salsa Clubs that are on this Saturday.

    London. UK.

  • Latin Collective @ Scala Latina. London. 6th January 2007.

The Latin Collective welcomes the New Year at the Scala Latina on 6th January 2007.

On show will be Maura and Eva, The Salsa Diversion Dance Company, and the fabulous SUZIQ Fashion Show featuring the salsa scenes hottest models.

I must say that the this Scala event is not the same as it was when it was a Bank Holiday only event. There were far more people at the Bank holiday event (it was almost always filled to capacity) which gave it that special buzzing atmosphere. Salseros would come down from the North of England and even from Europe to attend.

It is now more regular - monthly - there are less people and the atmosphere is different. I myself prefer when it is crowded as on the Bank Holidays.

I know there are some people who did not go to the exclusive Bank Holiday Salsa events as it was too crowded.

Well you can go now. It's official. The Scala Latina events has it has now become a more normal night club (although they do differentiate itself from other nightclubs by having quite a few showcases) and there is lots of space to dance (most of the time).

As for me I will go but not on every occasion as to me it has lost that "Special Something" which I used to look forward to and there are other Saturday Salsa nights on offer.

Please see Scala for the full format.

  • Salsa Fusion

Salsa Fusion is back this year on Saturday 6th January 2007. There is 1 superb venue with 2 Fully Air Conditioned rooms.

There will be a FREE Salsa Class with Sai and Deanne.

DJ Ara will be in The Salsa Room playing 100% Authentic Salsa for Real Salseros while DJ Alberto Nunez from Venezuela will be playing Salsa, Timba, Reggaeton, Merengue and Latin Groove in the Fusion Room.

This was one Salsa Club that was not that popular after it moved from its Notre Dame Hall site where it was the place to be on a Saturday (it was on fortnightly) but recently for about 10 months or so now it has become as popular as ever.

See Salsa Fusion 1 and Salsa Fusion 2.

Time: 9:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Location: 229 Great Portland Street. London W1.

    Admission: £8.

Please see Salsa Fusion or ring 020 7837 3752 for more details and dates for 2007.

  • Or you can check out Salsa Republic.
For what's best in Cuban Salsa, check out Salsa Republic

    USA.

30-01-2007 4:49 am - Brit Salsafest. Blackpool. UK

    Brit SalsaFest. 2nd - 4th February 2007. UK.

Only 4 more days to go before the Brit Salsafest in Blackpool. I widely tip this to be the top Salsa Congress in the UK and one of the best in the world after last year's success.

This event is promoted by Salsa-UK with Paul Young
the top UK Salsa Promoter and Salsology with Emma Moore who is hot on his heels.

So why is this Salsa Congress destined to be one of the best? Here are my reasons:

    • The International and Local Performers.

The Brit Salsafest attracted some of the best International and National performers last year and this year will be no different. The performers include:

      • Edie The Salsa Freak.

      • Swinguys.

      • Santo Rico.

      • Johnny Vasquez.

      • Jaime Jesus and Little Liz.

      • Tito and Tamara.

      • Hacha Y Machete.

      • Juan Matos & Fogarate.

      • Salsa Dance Squad.

      • Neeraj Maskara.

      • Big Spender.

      • Jessica Ortiz.

      • Lori Perez.

      • Rudy & Barbara.

      and our own

      • Leon Rose.

      • Susanna Montero.

      • Marchant Birch

      • Super Mario.

      • Laith Sami.

      • Lee & Shelley.

      • Irene Miguel.

      • Emma Moore and Mushi.

      and many more.

    • The Winter Gardens Ballroom.

The Very Impressive Winter Gardens with its superb Ballroom and home to numerous dance festivals and events over many, many years is tailor-made for salsa.

The evening parties will take place in the breathtaking Empress Ballroom with its spectacular vaulted ceiling, sparkling chandeliers and ornate balconies. This is an unbeatable venue for salsa!! It has a purpose-built stage for the showcases, and an amazing wooden dance floor used for the British Ballroom Championships and perfect for salsa dancing.

Workshops will take place under the same roof, in a collection of rooms which offer a uniquely impressive environment, from the magical Spanish Hall to the remarkable Pavilion. Each venue is spacious and airy with fixed wooden flooring, great sound quality and air conditioning.

Have a look at the rooms in this superb Venue:

    • 60 hours plus of Salsa Workshops, late night parties and showcases, all set in these spectacular surroundings.

    • Masterclasses.

There will be 3 masterclasses in addition to the main workshop schedule. They are strictly limited and partnerwork classes are for couples only with no rotation.

      The classes are:

      • Edie The Salsa Freak - Ladies Styling On 1. Sat 6 - 7 pm

      • Leon Rose - Turn Patterns On 1. Sun 6- 7 pm

      • Hacha Y Machete - Body Movement On 2. Sun 6 - 7 pm

    • Non Masterclasses.

      In other words:

      • The Salsa Experience - Beginners' Programme 2-4th February 2007.

Be part of the 2nd Brit Salsafest at the Winter Gardens and learn to salsa for the first time with The Salsa Experience!

Aimed at the complete beginner, this programme will introduce you to the exciting world of salsa and get you moving to the hot rhythms of latin music in no time!!

No previous dance experience necessary, the two-left-footed welcome, no partner required.

      • New. A Jack and Jill competition.

You do not have to be an expert to perform. The Jack and Jill Competition is open to all levels when your partner is picked on the spot.

This is usually a lot of fun. Who knows with the right partner you could win a trophy.

More on this Salsa Congress later this week.

Please see Brit SalsaFest 2007 for more details.

More news for you again tomorrow.

31-01-2007 5:07 am - More from the Brit Salsafest. Blackpool. UK

    1. New. Tango Workshop and Social.

A Tango Workshop will be given by Joel & Alina from Manchester followed by a Tango and Milonga Social.

A bit about Joel and Alina.

Joel & Alina are the directors and teachers of Tangomanchester, an organisation which plays an important role in promoting and popularizing Tango in the Manchester area.

Joel started studying Tango seven years ago, after being for many years an enthusiastic Salsa dancer. Very quickly, Tango became his main passion, which he vigorously pursued by traveling intensively to study with the best Maestros worldwide, including several trips to Buenos Aires. In 2002, he founded Tangomanchester.

Alina came to the world of Tango from a musical background. Her classical training as a pianist helped her appreciate the subtleties of Tango Music and enhance her interpretation of the dance rapidly. She started Tango with Joel, and recently became his partner in dancing and teaching. Together they travel extensively to keep up with the latest development of modern Tango.

Their bi-weekly classes (and milongas) are among the most attended and appreciated and attract people from well beyond Manchester. The techniques they teach emphasise functionality, naturalness, dynamics and playfulness, and are designed to allow the dancers to effectively master and enjoy both Traditional Tango as well as Tango Nuevo, and to merge them with fluidity.

Their workshop will be on Saturday 3rd June 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. So if you want to try something different at this major Salsa Congress that's the place to be.

    2. Accomodation.

Do you want to go to the Brit Salsafest but have not booked your accommodation yet?

    Then try these.

    • Hotels with Preferential rates for Brit Salsafest attendees.

The apartments are built and furnished to a high standard as would befit a 5 star accommodation, including TV, DVD, stylish leather suites and much more.
