Well. The day has arrived.

The opening day of the Brit Salsafest 2007 is here and I will be there.

I predict this to be one of the top Salsa Congresses worldwide and last year's inauguration is testimony to that.

As with the West Coast Salsa Congress 2006 and the UK Salsa Congress 2006, I will be reporting on this on my return to let you know what you have been missing.

Anyway for those who will not be there, here are some Salsa clubs for Friday and the weekend.

1. London. UK


  • Friday 2nd February 2007.

    This Friday 2nd February 2007 at Ealing Town Hall, MamboCity hosted by Robert and Jean White features the ever popular Guest DJ Julian the Duke.

  • Saturday 3rd February 2007.

    i. Salsa Fusion

    Salsa Fusion is back on Saturday 2nd February 2007. There is 1 superb venue with 2 Fully Air Conditioned rooms.

    Special for this Saturday, as was 2 weeks ago and back by popular request, - an Extra Warm Up Beginners Class as well as a Free Salsa class with Homero Gonsalez - A great opportunity to introduce new beginners to Salsa.

    DJ Ara will be in The Salsa Room playing 100% Authentic Salsa for Real Salseros while DJ Alberto Nunez from Venezuela will be playing Salsa, Timba, Reggaeton, Merengue and Latin Groove in the Fusion Room.

    This was one Salsa Club that was not that popular after it moved from its Notre Dame Hall site where it was the place to be on a Saturday (it was on fortnightly) but recently for about 10 months or so now it has become as popular as ever, and from what I saw when I went 2 weeks ago it will become as popular as it was 5 years ago at the Notre Dame Hall.

    i. Bar Salsa, Monday 12th February 2007.

    Go to this evening of classes and club run by Super Mario and Susan Montero. This is an evening of beginners to advanced classes and the most popular weekday club in London.

  • Buckinghamshire.

    Noches Latinas.

    After 12 years of Salsa classes, 9 of them being carried out at , Noches Latinas has moved to bigger premises. They are looking forward to having more space, with a large wooden dance floor and of course plenty of free parking.

    They are therefore kicking off at The Royal British Legion this Monday 12th with their Opening Night Party.

    Their free Weekly Dance Taster' is Bachata with Javier from 8:00 pm - 8:30 pm. There is also an advanced class by
    the 'Multi Styled' Advanced Teacher Kathie Towersey.

    Classes all levels: £6. Beginners start at 7:45 pm. All other levels 8:30 pm.

2. Sydney, Australia.

i. Picante Latin Dance.

New 6-week term starts on Monday 26th February 2007. However there is a drop-in/casual alternative.

Salsa and a superb alternative Bachata Classes by Picante Latin Dance.

Bachata is a beautiful romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic. Come and learn this smooth & sensual dance.

    This event is promoted by the Salsoteca Dance School owned by Elder Sanchez.

i. Salsa Suave.

Salsa Suave, one of Sydney's leading Latin dance groups, offers the very best in Latin Dance entertainment and classes including; Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue and Bachata.

This is run by Fernando Providel and Becky Lee who have a combined 10 years of teaching, performing and competing in Latin dance, were winners of the Sydney Salsa Competition in 2003 and in 2004 they were the first Australian couple to be finalists at the Mayan World Salsa Competition in Los Angeles.

Klause, a Certified Teacher has over 10 years experience (LA and Cuban Salsa) in the UK, US, Central and South America. His emphasis is on leading technique, structure, musicality and fun. This is a drop-in class, no booking needed. Includes free practice hour.

Salsa Tuesdays with Pretty Boys and Girls.

Pretty Boys and Girls are giving Salsa Lessons regularly on Tuesdays. Danny & Darci teach every 1st & 3rd Tuesday and Frank & Lianne teach every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at the elegant upscale fitness club, the Decathlon.

Learn in a cool, comfortable environment on gorgeous hardwood floors next to a dreamy waterfall!
Lessons available:

  • Beginner Lesson: 7:30 pm - Basic footwork and fundamentals in partnerwork.

  • Intermediate Lesson: 8:30pm - Ladies Styling/Men's Footwork followed by partnering.


No partner necessary, all ages welcome.

    This event is promoted by Ricardo and Michelle of Pretty Boys and Girls.

    Dance to the hottest salsa music on a 3000 square foot maplewood dance floor, enjoy floor to ceiling mirrors to practice your moves. The music is supplied by DJ Fab Fred.

    There is also a Beginners class and an Intermediate Footwork/Sexy Lady's Styling class by Ricardo and Michelle, followed by a complimentary buffet dinner @ 9:00 pm.

    They will be ably supported by sets from London and the UK's finest Cuban Salsa DJ's: Javier and Dr Jim.

    Flamenco Music And Dance with Oscar Valero. 7th March 2007.

    Share A Night of Great Flamenco Music And Dance With Oscar Valero. He presents: Fuerza El Swing del Flamenco.

    Fuerza "El Swing del Flamenco" an original work, is Oscar's brand of flamenco at it's modern and very musical in its interpretation of fusion.The program consists of a Seguiriya, then a Jaleos/Tangos, and lastly, a Solea.

    Of the many palos that exists in flamenco, Oscar has chosen the most important palos. In the Seguiriya, for example it's the "quejido" the lament, the most mournful. On to the Jaleos and Tangos, which is fiesta, a celebration of life, and the end, "La Solea del Rubio".

    Oscar Valero is quoted as saying: "Un quejio que te atrapa, un a juerga que no te deja marchar, y una solea para bailar" which translated means: "A soul-jarring lament that captures you, a party that begs you not to leave,
    and a solea that sets you to dancing.

    Oscar Valero was born in Valencia, Spain, and began his professional career at the age of 15. He started his dance training in Valencia, then moved to Madrid to continue Flamenco.

    He is an acclaimed Flamenco dancer and choreographer who has also has an extensive training in other dance forms such as Modern, Jazz and Ballet. He has participated in some of the most famous flamenco festivals in Spain and performed with Antonio Canales in International Flamenco Festivals in Lyon (France), Bogota (Colombia), Tel Aviv (Israel), Spoleto (Italy), and Tokyo (Japan). He was also a featured guest artist in the Chicago Flamenco Festival 2005.

    Oscar has been featured in other media presentations of Flamenco, including the biographical film of Cristina Hoyos, and with Jose Merca on Spain's MTV.

    In Spain, Oscar directs his own Flamenco company, performing original works to sell-out crowds. He continues to tour, perform, and teach workshops throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States.

    Oscar has created his Flamenco Dance Company in New York.

    This event is promoted by Albert Torres of Albert Torres Productions.The instructor is Enio Cordoba. The band on the night is Orquesta Opa Opa.

    The music will be supplied by DJ Frank "Mr. Swing" & Super DJ Robby until 2:00 am. Then until 4:00 am by DJ Saoco (music will vary).

    Large dance floor. All ages welcome.
