Discover the best Salsa Clubs in LA

1. Introduction.

Enjoy the Salsa Clubs in LA that are in abundance and discover that experience that you always dream about,
savouring that sultry exotic Latin atmosphere.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to go to my favourites as planned when I visited LA in May 2006 for the West Coast Salsa Congress, but below are those that were highly recommended.

Note. Travelling in LA is unlike London where you can hop on the underground. Hiring a car is best.

2. LA Salsa Clubs. Here we come.

The Salsa Clubs in LA are mainly LA Style "On 1" but there is also a lot of Cuban Salsa with a splattering of Cumbia, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and other Latin dances at these Clubs.

Ok. Let's go.i. - The Conga Room

Important Notice:

The Conga Room which has been at it's current venue 5364 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California for eight years, is now closed (as of 2nd June 2006). It is moving to the LA Live! Entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles and will open there in 2008. In anticipation they have closed for construction work to the new venue.

See The Conga Room for up-to-date details.

ii. - Stevens Steakhouse.

This is one of the best Salsa clubs in LA that everyone recommended me to go to but unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances I was unable to do so.
There are two rooms. One which plays the faster LA Style and NY "On 2" Salsa music, and another smaller one which plays Cuban Style slower music. There are a lot of good dancers there.

As one visitor to this club quoted:

'The bigger dance floor opens about 10:30 pm and there are a lot of good LA dancers there. It's also friendly so if you are an outsider you would not be too intimidated. Although the dancers were serious the place was full of positive energy. Steven's tops my list of places I've been to for salsa.' (Groan!!! And I did not go)

Location: 5332 Steven's Place, City of Commerce - (213) 723-9856.

Admission: Sun, Wed, Thur, Fri - $10. Saturdays, Tuesdays and Sundays - Free.

iii. - Salsa Central @ The Granada.

This Salsa club in LA is run by Albert Torres, the international Salsa Events Promoter. Dance classes for all levels are from 8:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m with the 'Let's Dance' staff and is included with the paid admission.

The Granada is open every Friday until 2 a.m. & Saturday until 4 a.m. After 2:00 pm music varies on the main dance floor and there is great tapas food at Guitarras on the 2nd floor and also a breakfast buffet after midnight on Saturday for $6.95.

Location: 17 S. First St., Alhambra, CA.

iv. - Club Saffire formerly Point 705.

There is free salsa dancing at this Salsa Club in LA every Tuesday until 2006. Free basic classes from 8-9 p.m. with free dancing until 1 a.m.

Location: 705 Pier Avenue, Hermosa Beach.Directions: Take Sepulveda south from LAX (Sepulveda becomes Pacific Coast Hwy). Pass Artesia. Make a right on Pier Avenue. Find 705 Pier Ave. on right hand side. Parking is at the rear, and you enter through front.
