After reading this page you will know exactly where to go to start your Salsa experience. However before you do decide there are a few things that you need to be aware to be aware of. After all you do want to get off on the right foot don't you?
3. Before you consider. After reading the Salsa Steps and Salsa Style sections you might have thought 'Which style do I start with? Do I start dancing "On 1" or "On 2"? You may decide you like a particular style e.g. Mambo shines, as you like the fancy footwork or like the showy stuff, or perhaps you do not particularly care and do not mind dancing any style. You just want to start the lessons and get it out of your system. Yes? You should consider which particular style is dominant in the area where you live. For instance if you live in Leeds in the UK and start taking "On 2" classes but when you start going to the clubs and everyone is dancing "On 1" you will be frustrated as partners dancing "On 2" and "On 1" do not gel. There may be very few people dancing "On 2" if any at all and your progress could be seriously hampered.
So find out which styles or steps predominate in you area, take lessons in those so that when you go to the clubs you can have lots of practice, become better and therefore more confident. From there you can go on to try the other steps and styles. In London the Style is basically "On 1" but a lot of people are now dancing "On 2". So if you see the "On 2" style and you like it then you can start Salsa lessons "On 2". However I would try to learn both styles as you can dance with more people thereby increasing your enjoyment.
